Searching HyperQuest
Introduction/Purpose
This HyperQuest
helps users
become more familiar with searching, search engines, and browsing the
Internet.
Task
After completing this HyperQuest,
you will decide which Search Engine is most appropriate for you and
your students. You and your team will be searching for an array of
information on dolphins. Use this worksheet
to gather the information needed.
Process and Resources
- Go to Ask
Jeeves and ask several questions about
dolphins. Record your findings on the worksheet.
- Go to KidsClick!
and type in dolphin in the search field. Hit Enter. Record your
findings on the worksheet.
- Go to Searchopolis
and click on the Elementary School tab. Click on Animals. Then
click on Marine Mammals. Read through the list of links and click
on several that might offer information on dolphins. Record your
findings on the worksheet.
- Go to Yahooligans
and type in the word dolphin in the search field. If this doesn't
work, click on Animals. Then click on Mammals, then click on
Marine Mammals. Read through the list of links and click on
several that might offer information on dolphins. Record your
findings on the worksheet.
Evaluation
Reflect on the following
questions:
- How did your team function?
What roles did members of the team take?
- Are these the same roles you
would expect your students to take? How would you help students
determine the roles?
- Which Search Engine or Subject
Directory seemed most helpful? Why?
- Which Search Engine or Subject
Directory seemed least helpful? Why?
- How would you use this type of
activity in your classroom or during your computer lab time?
- Which search engine seems most
appropriate for your class and grade level? Why
Conclusion
Share your reflections with the
whole group.
