The Art of Poetry

Language Art: Middle school students grades 5-8

              There is a lot of critical thinking that goes into creating a poem based on a picture or piece of art.  This WebQuest challenges students to find a piece of art and thus create a poem based on their interpretation of the art.  In thinking of reaching all students, this will allow for a great deal of differentiation for all learners.

 

Civil War Personal Journal

Social Studies: Middle school students grades 5-8

              This quest serves an interesting purpose; students get to research the topic of the Civil War based on one of five very specific points of view – Union Soldier, Confederate Soldier, Southern Belle, Northern Woman, or an Abolitionist.  This is a very different and potentially effective way for students to do a research project.  The choice of roles will give the students a focus for their research.

Science: Middle school students grades 5-8

              This is a great quest that will take water education to the next level.  Students do research about water quality; learn about water testing techniques, and present group finding for experiments.  Overall, the WebQuest will provide an exciting and fun way to learn about what can be a rather boring topic if learned out of a book.

 

Chocolate: A Multidisciplinary WebQuest

Cross Curricular: students grades 3-8

              This is a very interesting an exciting quest.  Students are invited to be businessmen and start a chocolate business.  They are ÒgivenÓ a specified amount of money and they must not only plan and start the business but also research the topic: chocolate.

Mathematics: Middle school students grades 6-8

              Using a very creative scenario, the author of this quest invites students to design a new number system.  Students are expected to use prior knowledge of place values and the base-ten system we currently use. There is also and incorporation of history of math with ideas such as an abacus and the various cultures who influences math of the United States.

 

Researching Symmetry & Transformations: A Guide: To Flip, Glide, and Slide

Mathematics: Middle and High school students grades 6-10

              Students will explore a rather complicated concept in an interesting and exciting way.  Working in groups, students research about symmetry and transformations, and then they create a magazine to inform the class about these concepts.  This quest incorporated research, creativity and presentations.
