TEACHING BY EXAMPLE: The Los Angeles Unified School
District faces $5 million in fines for illegally copying
computer software. Acting on a tip, the Business Software
Alliance audited the school's computers and found 1,400
pirated copies of applications such as Microsoft Word and
Adobe Photoshop. School Board member David Tukofsky
whined that the software companies should leave the giant
California district alone, ignore the copyright
violations and instead give the district "an offer of
training, reconciliation and understanding." (New York
Times) ...People who wonder "Why can't Johnny read?" may
now wonder instead "Why doesn't David know it's wrong to
steal?"
