Intended Audience: Teachers, parents interested in multimedia
Why go to this site: This site presents a clear, simple
overview and description of multimedia. They define multimedia related
terms, describe what multimedia can do, and show examples. Several
examples require shockwaves, which must be downloaded. The download
is free, and will be useful for viewing other multimedia sites.
Intended Audience: Teachers interested in multimedia
Why go to this site: This is an on-line magazine dedicated
to the use of multimedia and internet technologies in schools. Each
issue included reviews of web sites, reviews of interactive CD Rom's, and
articles about the use of multimedia technologies in classrooms.
You can browse through past issues, but the site does NOT include a search
engine that would allow you to search the archives of past issues.

Why go to this site: The author of this paper, Allyn
Radford, presents a convincing vision for the future of multimedia in education.
He defines multimedia related terms, discusses topics such as distant learning,
on-line course, and multimedia within the classroom. His vision for
the future is compelling, and he motivates readers to reconsider how they
view education in general.
Why go to this site: This site describes a study completed
with 1st grade students who used the Wiggle Works interactive multimedia
literacy program by Scholastic. The researcher found that students
who used the multimedia program showed significantly more growth in reading
and writing than students who did not use the software. This article,
though length and tedious to read, would be helpful to convince principals
and school board members that the research supports the use of technology
in schools. Maybe the results will convince them to invest more in
technology for classrooms.
Intended Audience: teachers, anyone interested in learning
more about multimedia production
Why go to this site: The VFS offers a number of courses
about technology, everything from multimedia basics (which does not look
too basic) to classic animation and 3-D animation, and video production.
The course descriptions are interesting, but what is most useful is the
collection of student projects available for viewing on the site.
There are wonderful examples of excellent web site design, and meaningful
use of animated graphics and video clips. The projects are truly
amazing.
