Introduction

 

School is out! Summer has begun. Dad is trying to decide where to go for vacation. He can't make up his mind so he wants you and your siblings to choose. The problem is you all want to go somewhere different. What are you going to do? You have to convince Dad that your location is the best location. Good luck!

 

Task

 

Your job is to decide which place you want to go and research that location. With the information you will prepare a PowerPoint presentation that will convince your father into choosing your location for the trip. You will find information researching the links I have provided.

 

Process and Resources

 

1. Divide into groups of 2. Group members will share all responsibilities.

2. Choose from one of the four locations below.

3. Click on the location name and explore the links provided.

4. Investigate to find answers to the following questions.

A. From your city, how far is the location?

B. What would be the best route to reach the destination?

C. What is the average temperature for June, July, and August?

D. What is the average price of a hotel?

E. What are the main points of interest? (museums, parks, etc)

5. Choose one of the locations and research links:

Mesa Verde National Park
Disneyland
Washington D.C.
Yellowstone National Park
(You may need to explore the site to find exact information)

6. Create a PowerPoint presentation including the information gathered.

7. Share presentation with your class.

Extension

* Collect pictures taken on one of your family vacations. Scan the pictures and find additional photos from the Internet. Using Hyperstudio or iMovie, create a slide show of family pictures. Present your photo slide show to your class.

* Combine facts from all four vacation spots to contrast and compare. Make graghs and charts to show differences and similarities. I recommend using Microsoft Excel.

 

Notes to Teacher

* This WebQuest should take about 2-3 weeks to complete.

* If PowerPoint or Hyperstudio is not available, have students use large poster boards to show during presentations. Include pictures and maps.
