Summary: This is a very simple, straightforward lesson; an easy and fun way to introduce the concept of "living" in relationship to different organisms. Although it doesn't incorporate a lot of technology, it could easily be "tweeked". (The technology included in the lesson is in the form of internet links.) It included extension ideas as well as links to career related sites.

I think this could be a wonderful unit--if you had the time for it. It is at least a 2 week project. However, bits and pieces could be used as a mini-unit. This is perfect for the Southeast Alaska setting as moose and hunting are a subsistence way of life. This unit has very real life implications - many of us still depend on moose for our yearly meat supply. The activities incorporate how wildlife are used to sustain life in rural areas, how/what needs to be done to continue to keep herds viable, cultural aspects of hunting, gathering, manipulating, and interpreting data, culminating with a "moose stew" feast. A very integrated, hands on unit--although technology is not a part of it, it would certainly be easy to incorporate it into most of the activities. . I already use moose hunting data to do graphing projects with my sixth graders.

A great hands on activity to promote the understanding of how clouds are formed. Prior to the cloud making activity there are on-line links to cloud vocabulary words as well as weather sites students can visit. Before experiment students are encourage to make predictions and then draw conclusions after fininshing the activit. Could incorporate technology through a word processing activity.

A real hands on lesson using a "real" heart. Kids work in groups, do some dissecting, journalize findings, data, extend findings to "human" life. Ideas for ntegration into other subject areas offered.
