SET SHARED BORDERS FOR ALL PAGES IN A WEB

A shared border is a region that is common to one or more pages in a web. Inside a shared border, include items that you want to appear on each page with the shared border.

You can set which shared borders to use in a web by default. For example, set the top border to be shared by default. Then, when you create a page for your web, the new page will automatically share this top border.

Note   After you set shared borders across a web, you can change this setting for individual pages.

  1. On the Format menu, click Shared Borders.
  2. Click All pages.
  3. Select the borders that you want to appear on every page in the current web. If you select Top or Left, you can also choose to include navigation bars.

Dashed lines are displayed to indicate the shared border, and you can now add the content you want.

If you included a navigation bar, it is displayed in the shared border. Otherwise, a comment telling you to add content is displayed — you can remove the comment by selecting it and pressing DELETE.

SET SHARED BORDERS FOR A PAGE

For each page in your web, you can set the borders to share. For example, if the top border is shared by default for a web but you don't want this shared border on a specific page, you can turn off the shared top border on that page. Or, you can set selected pages in a web to use a shared border, even if the web does not have any shared borders by default.

For example, the default setting for the web is to have top and bottom shared borders. You insert a navigation bar in the top border, and a copyright citation in the bottom border. However, on three pages you do not want to display the copyright citation, so for these three pages, disable the bottom border.

  1. In Page view, on the Format menu, click Shared Borders.
  2. Click Current page.
  3. Specify the borders that you want on this page.

Shared borders are added or removed depending on your settings. New borders display placeholder elements, such as a comment, page banner, or navigation bar.

ADD, CHANGE, OR REMOVE ELEMENTS IN A SHARED BORDER

After you set a shared border, you can add content to it. At any point, you can change or remove the content in a shared border. For example, you can add a page banner to a shared top border, change the navigation bar, or delete text.

  1. Open a page that uses the shared border you want to modify.
  2. In Page view, click inside the shared border region, which is outlined with a dashed line. When you click the area, the outline changes to a solid line.
  3. Make your changes to the content inside the shared border region. For example, type text or add a picture.
  4. Click the Save icon. Your changes will appear on all pages that share the border.
