The egg stage of the caterpilar. The mother butterfly lays 250 - 1500 eggs. Eggs look like green grapes. Butterflies keep their eggs on a leaf. The stage ends in about 10 days. When the stage ends the eggs hatches into a caterpillar.
It takes 1 week to 2 months to finish the caterpillar stage. The caterpillar eats plants and leaves. Molting is when they shed their skin. The caterpillar stage is over when they make their crysalis.
First the skin shrinks and splits. Then the crysalis starts to appear. Then it finds a sheltered place like a twig. Inside the crysalis it grows wings, the prolegs disappear and it turns into a butterfly. It takes 10- 14 days for it to emerge as a butterfly.
This is the butterfly stage. Butterflies can live for 9 months but most die in 1 week. Butterflies have to find a mate to have babies. Butterflies spend most of the time eating. Butterflies eat nectar. At night butterflies go under a leaf.
