Teaching with the Internet:
Learning Advice

The challenge is not the technology, but what we teach and how we teach.
We must not confuse the tool with the result.

The Internet is growing exponentially and each day provides more and more resources for teachers and learners of all ages! Below I have links to a wide variety of resources that may be useful in educational settings. Not all links will be useful in every learning situation, so users of this page can browse and select those most appropriate in terms of content and grade level.

When using the Internet in schools, I suggest a few key principles:

  • avoid having kids type URLs
  • provide links for kids through bookmarks, launch pages, or web pages
  • if kids use search engines, have them use kid-safe search engines

My research has shown that extensive reading and writing using the Internet and email enhances kids' reading and writing skills extensively. It also prepares them to be literate citizens of the 21st century.
