Demographics on the First Freshman Class at ASU West

Thanks to Dr. Vince Waldron and Dr. Emily Cutrer, we were able to get some demographic information about the first freshmen at ASU West. These are listed below in chart form. All our charts were created using Microsoft Excel.

As you can see, we have a diverse group of students in our class.

About half of us are first-generation college students.

All of us had encouragement from our parents and guidance counselors to go to a four-year university.

Each of us is financing our college education in different ways.

Almost 40% of us have our expenses paid by family members.

About one-quarter of us have no financial support from our families.

The majority of freshmen come from within Arizona, with only 6% coming from out of state.

Most of those freshmen from Arizona come from the Phoenix area, especially the Northwest Valley.

87% of us are working part-time or full-time as we attend ASU West.

The graph at the right reflects our weekly work hours.

One-quarter of the freshman have not decided on a major.

The rest of us have declared majors, but we know our choices may change in the next few semesters as we develop interests in specific areas.
