Provost Elaine Maimon Visits Dr. Alice Christie's CSE 180

Provost Elaine Maimon visited our class on Wednesday, November 21. She chatted with all students to learn about their parts in the Freshman Experience Web Site. She also spoke to the class about the history and process of making ASU West a four-year university and answered students' questions.

After her visit she reported: "Alice Christie's freshman class, CSE 180, is doing great things. As part of a learning community with ENG 101 and UNI 101, the class has created a web site on the freshman experience. They are working in teams to collect data from surveys, to create a pictorial story, to record commentary on the experience, and more. They have even created a letterhead with a watermark version of the full freshman class photo."

"When I visited the class today---the Wednesday before Thanksgiving--they were so busy working on the computers in their collaborative learning groups that no one even looked up. They were so absorbed that Brad Pitt could have walked in, and they would have continued with their work. Well, maybe not Brad Pitt, but you get the idea."
