Natalie

I have lived in Arizona all 18 years of my life and, as you can imagine, I love traveling out of state to get out of this heat in the summertime. I've been to California, Oregon, Washington and Nevada a few times, but would love to go to the east coast. I always travel with my parents, who have been happily married for 21 years, and my sister who is currently a freshman at the high school I attended, Sunrise Mountain.

At first, I was nervous about college. There are so many decisions to make about what you want to major in and what you want to do with your life. Teaching and being with young kids has always been of interest to me, but I'm still not positive if that's really what I want to do for the rest of my life.

I chose to go to ASU West in December of 2000. I had debated about community college or the west campus for a while. Many good things were said about ASU West at meetings and through people who attend this school. I wanted a school that wasn't so huge that I would feel lost and out of place, a campus close to home and somewhere that would help me in my major. I heard that this campus was well known for education majors, along with having everything else I wanted, so I made my decision. It's very different from high school though. Since the students are paying for the classes they chose, most teachers don't care if you're there or not because it isn't their money that we're wasting. It's very important to manage your time well also. There is a ton of homework to be done everynight and not much time to spend with friends. I do like having a three day weekend though. It helps us catch up on a few things and makes for a better week. I look forward to meeting a lot of new people of all ages. This is the beginning of a new world for me.

My Role in The Freshman Experience Web Site

My role in creating this Freshman Experience Web Site was one of three letter writers. We have written letters to staff, faculty and administrators informing them about our website and surveys. We did this by looking up their e-mail addresses and sending through the computer.
