Internet Search Engines

This vast network of networks spans the globe and allows computers users from most parts of the world to connect to other computers and communicate with other users. Refered to as "The Information Super Highway," "The National Information Infrastructure," "The InfoBahn," "Cyberspace," and many others more glowing and more critical, the Internet has doubled size each month or two since 1995. With growth this rapid, it is no wonder there are many potholes along the way. This class and this HomePage are designed to help you avoid or gracefully maneuver these potholes. Search Engines are used to browse or surf the Internet. There are numerous search engines and you should experiment using search engines until you find the one or two you like best. You will publish a HomePage which is geared toward educational purposes and will enhance your instruction and help you integrate technology and telecommunications into your classroom.

Using the Internet for K - 12 Education

There are numerous ways of using the Internet in education. The main purpose of this course is to explore the many possibilities which exist in the minds of educators. For example, paired students in different schools can collaboratively write a story or research report. They can conduct literature searches, engage in cross-cultural exchanges, or publish HomePages containing art work, written work, photography, audio or video segments of school activities. The possibilities are endless.
