Deciduous, can be grown as a shrub or small tree, large clusters of flowers in shades of red, white, purple and pink in warm weather, listed as a full sun plant but grows better here with filtered shade, full sun causes leaves to burn around edges, prefers good soil and drainage, avoid overhead irrigation, best with deep spaced irrigation, hardy to cold, likes heat.

Evergreen, grows at moderate rate to 30 ft. high, red berries in late fall or winter, more attractive with multiple trunks, prefers good drainage, full sun, periodic deep irrigation, shallow water causes surface roots over a wide area, trees can be damaged at 20 to 25 degrees F.
