41. Arizona Orchid BAUHINIA variegata
Flowering trees with butterfly shaped wings, bloom on last years wood, briefly deciduous, tolerant of most soils but alkaline soils may burn leaves, part shade to full or reflected sun, moderate to ample water, hardy to 22 degrees F.
Location: CLCC courtyard and along mall.

42. Hopbush DODONAEA viscosa
Tough drought resistant shrub, native to this area, fast grower, attracts whiteflies, tolerant of alkaline, rocky or heavy soils, part, full or reflected sun, best with regular widely spaced irrigation.
Location: CLCC beside block wall of loading area.

43. Jacaranda JACARANDA mimosifolia
Briefly deciduous in early spring, prefers loose sandy soil, full sun,widely spaced deep irrigation, too much water in early fall produces new growth tender to frost. Taper off water as fall approaches.
MAP Location: South side of FAB and UCB, north side of library.

44. Heavenly Bamboo NANDINA domestica
Evergreen, average soil, afternoon shade in low desert, tolerates wide range of irrigation practices, recovers quickly from drought.
Location: Scattered along mall area around ficus and jacaranda.

45. Nitida FICUS indica
Evergreen, moderate water, full sun.
Location: Along mall next to FAB and UCB, along south side of Sands and CLCC.

46. Xylosma XYLOSMA senticosum
Evergreen, improved garden soil with good drainage, moderate water, filtered or part shade to full sun.
MAP Location: Scattered around campus and used as a hedge around library lawn.

47. Fantex Ash FRAXINUS velutina
Deciduous, loose soil with good drainage, part to full or reflected sun, widely spaced deep irrigation after established.
Location: Library lawn.

48. Tropical Bird of Paradise STRELITZIA S. nicolai
Evergreen perennials, light shade, regular water, little or no fertilizer.
Location: Planters in front of library north side.

49. Italian Cypress CUPRESSUS sempervirens
Evergreen, prefers light dry soil, full to reflected sun, regular irrigation until established—deep widely spaced irrigation after.
MAP Location: North and south ends of library lawn.

50. Chinese Pistache PISTACIA chinensis
Deciduous, tolerates alkaline soils, needs good drainage, moderate water until established then deep periodic soakings, part sun to full.
Location: Planters by steps leading from library lawn to forecourt between FAB and UCB.
