ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

DESCRIPTION:
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform varied advanced administrative and secretarial work unique to the department, requiring initiative and independent judgment, e.g. maintain/reconcile budget reports, coordinate and implement class schedules and related student issues (academic departments), assist with special projects, interpret established policies and implement new policies where necessary, resolve problems within department. Process mail, answer inquires, compose correspondence, screen phone calls, work independently under general direction.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Four years directly related experience; or, certificate in secretarial science and three years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of standard office policies and procedures. Skill in developing and maintaining good working relationships. Skill in English composition, grammar, spelling and basic math. Prior experience in academic environment useful. Knowledge of computer/word processing DOS and Macintosh environment helpful. Good interpersonal communication skills and budget experience helpful. Problem solving and critical thinking skills. Attention to details and follow through needed.
