The ADAM (Arrestee Drug Abuse Monitoring) program operated in two Arizona sites, Maricopa and Pima Counties. The actual catchment areas for Arizona ADAM included persons arrested in Maricopa and Pima Counties. ADAM replaces the Drug Use Forecasting (DUF) program that operated in approximately 24 cities from 1987 to 1998. In 1998 DUF was re-engineered into ADAM and expanded to include 38 cities. ADAM was previously funded by the National Institute of Justice, the research and evaluation arm of the Office of Justice Programs. The ADAM project was discontinued in Arizona in 2003. Plans for reinstituting the program are currently underway. The new program, the Arizona Arrestee Information Network (AARIN), will model the ADAM program in many aspects. At present, plans are to roll out the AARIN program in Maricopa and then expand to other regions of the state. One of the advantages of AARIN is the flexibility of the program and the ability to customize questions to ongoing needs of the criminal justice community.
