Using Appropriate Body Language  

  1. Make eye contact with the entire audience
  2. Use positive facial expressions (e.g., smile)
  3. Keep good, open posture (e.g., Lean forward to show your interest in the audience and the topic)
  4. Nod your head when taking questions
  5. Let words trigger physical action (e.g., If you say “no” shake your head no)
  6. Stand still unless your speech involves movement.  If movement is required, walk confidently
  7. Maintain positive positioning throughout the speech (e.g., If the speech is interactive with the audience try walking throughout the audience)
  8. Use gestures appropriately but not excessively
  9. Strive to be natural and yourself, as your body will reflect this
  10. Dress appropriately and professionally
