Using a Computer During a Speech

  2. Know how to use the overhead projection system, and make sure the color looks the same as you expected
  3. Make sure the software (and version) that you need is available on the computer
  4. Make sure there is a live Internet connection if you need one
  5. Make sure the drive type is available (e.g., floppy, CD, or Zip drive)
  6. Determine whether you will be using a mouse, trackball, or wireless mouse and know how long the mouse cord is; if you need a laser pointer make sure that is available
  7. Know the screen type (i.e., How big is it?) and whether it can be lowered
  8. Make sure you or someone present can log into the system if required
  9. Have backups in different formats (floppy, CD, Internet, or email), or have handouts in case the technology fails
  10. Know what is to be done with the computer when the presentation is complete (e.g., someone must logoff, shutdown, someone else is using it, etc.)
