Remembering Your Speech

  1. Practice, practice, practice!
  2. Write your speech in a logical manner
  3. Write notes on your visual aids (e.g., If you use a flip chart, write small notes to yourself on the side in light pencil.)
  4. Use note cards that have your main points
  5. Use visual aids that relate to your main points or sub-points
  6. Practice first with an outline or note cards and then without them
  7. Read through the speech first, then begin practicing
  8. Get to the location early to review your speech
  9. Do not stress!  The audience cannot read your mind so they do not know what you are intending to say or how you planned on saying it
  10.  Remember that it is okay for your speech to be slightly different each time you give it; you should not memorize sentences but should remember main points and how to explain them
