Using PowerPoint during a Speech

  1. Get into the presentation room before the presentation day.  Preferably a day or two before you speak or even on the event day.
  2. Check out the equipment and test the system with your materials to make sure that everything is working
  3. Download the presentation to make any needed adjustments
  4. Have backups of your work (e.g., handouts and disks)
  5. Know the environment (e.g., Be familiar with the setup of the room)
  6. Determine how far from the screen the audience will be
  7. Practice using the computer in the classroom where the speech will be given
  8. Dim the lights so the screen can be seen, but do not make the room so dark that you are just a voice in the darkness
  9. Check the screen during the presentation, but do not stare at it. Instead, make eye contact with audience
  10. Come out from behind the computer if possible, and move the mouse or hold it necessary
