Adaptive Equipment CCTV (Closed Circuit Television)

What

A closed circuit television (CCTV) is a device that looks like an elevated computer monitor. It has a camera that takes a "picture" of printed material, and magnifies the information on the monitor. Through the use of a CCTV, the student can change the amount of magnification, the contrast, and maneuver around the whole screen, or focus on select area blocks.

Who and Why

This is a useful piece of equipment for students with visual disabilities. It allows for the magnification of any information, either text or graphics.

Where and When

CCTVs are located in the Fletcher Library (this is a colored CCTV), TRiO/SSS Program, Technopolis, and the DRC Testing Area. One is also available on a mobile cart that may be brought to a classroom.

How

Contact the Disability Resource Center (DRC), 602.543.8145 (V), 602.543.4327 (TTY) to determine if this is an applicable accommodation for you, and to schedule an individual initial training session. The staff in each location should be able to provide you with limited assistance when you begin working with the CCTV. Technical assistance for persistent problems is available through the DRC.
