Education

Ph.D., University of Washington

Luis Cabrera teaches political theory, global politics and Latino politics. He has a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Washington, and his research focuses on cosmopolitan political theory, or the application of principles of justice across borders. His book, Political Theory of Global Justice, is forthcoming from Routledge. In it, he argues for economic and political integration among states, modeled loosely on the evolving European Union, in order to improve the life chances of those born into less-affluent states.

Dr. Cabrera has been active on Latino Events Committee at ASU's West campus, and he has served as faculty adviser to Hispanic Honor Society and the Associated Students of ASU's West campus (student government). He also serves as co-chair, with Dr. Anastasi, of the annual Kids in the Colonias food drive for children in Nogales, Sonora.

Dr. Cabrera worked for several years as a staff reporter for The Associated Press in Seattle, covering criminal justice issues, politics, the anti-corporate-globalization movement, technology, and the NBA Seattle SuperSonics. He holds an M.F.A. in creative writing from Eastern Washington University and a B.A. in journalism from Western Washington University.
