Ethnic Studies
Internships
Application Process
-
Explore ideas
regarding internship possibilities and consider the number of
hours you will be able to commit to the program. Forty-five
hours on the job equals one credit hour of instruction.
Internship sponsors generally want students to commit at least
ten hours per week, the equivalent of three credit hours in fall
or spring semesters.
-
Make an
appointment with the Ethnic Studies Program Coordinator, in FAB
N207 to discuss the nature of your interest in the internship.
The Internship Coordinator and Ethnic Studies Director must
approve proposed internship site before proceeding with the
internship application process.
-
Complete the
Ethnic Studies
Application and ask the Program Coordinator to evaluate
your internship proposal. The internship coordinator will advise
you regarding expectations for periodic meetings and materials
required for your progress reviews. The Director of Ethnic
Studies will determine whether or not to approve the internship
proposal.
-
If possible, plan
a meeting that both the faculty mentor and on-site supervisor
can attend. Together they can help you define specific
objectives, policies and procedures for the internship. Have the
Internship Agreement
with you at the meeting so the on-site supervisor and faculty
mentor must sign as required for processing the forms.
