Using Classroom Projectors

There are two brands of projector installed in classrooms on the West campus: NEC and Mitsubishi.

Turn the Projector On

  1. Locate the remote control for the projector. Normally, it will be on the lectern.
  2. Point the remote towards the lens of the projector and press the "On" button.
  3. After a few moments, look at the lens to see whether the light has turned on.

  4. Wait a few moments for the projector to warm up. When it is warm, you will see an image on the projection screen.

Select the Video Source

After the device you are using has been turned on, use the remote to select the correct video source:

  • Video - for VCR, DVD, television, satellite.
  • Computer 1 or RGB1 - for the computer installed in the classroom or, in some classrooms, for a laptop that you have connected using cables supplied at the lectern. On the Mitsubishi remote, Computer 1 is selected by pressing the Computer button once.
  • Computer 2 or RGB2 - in some classrooms, for a laptop that you have connected using cables supplied at the lectern. On the Mitsubishi remote, Computer 2 is selected by pressing the Computer button twice.

If you are trying to project an image from a laptop that you have connected using cables supplied at the classroom lectern, try the Computer 1 or RGB1 video source first. If your laptop display does not appear on the projection screen, try Computer 2 or RGB2. Your laptop video adapter should be set at 60 Hertz.

Use the Laser Pointer

Press and hold the Laser button to activate the laser pointer. When lit, you can use the laser to draw your audience's attention to a red dot that you can place on any object within 30 feet (10 m).

Do not look into the laser pointer while it is on.

Do not point the laser beam at a person.

Use the Remote as a Computer Mouse

When you are displaying an image from the installed classroom computer, you can use the projector remote as a mouse:

  • Rock the edges of the large round "pad" in the middle of the remote up, down, left, right, etc. to move the cursor.
  • "Pull the trigger" underneath the remote for "left click".
  • Click the oblong button beneath the pad for "right click". On the NEC remotes, this is labeled "R-Click/Cancel". On the Mitsubishi remotes, it is labeled "right click".

In some classrooms, the RGB1 video source is used both for the computer installed in the classroom and for a laptop connected to cables supplied at the lectern for this purpose. In these classrooms, the guest laptop will be displayed on the projection screen whenever it is connected and the video source is set to RGB1.
