File Shares for Instruction

Instructor file Directories

Instructor file directories provide a secure space that instructors can use to make classroom materials available for students to read and copy.

IT automatically creates an instructor file directory when an instructor activates his or her ASURITE UserID and selects ASUWEST services. The directory (folder) is created using the instructor's last name. If the last name duplicates one already in existence, the folder name is lastname_f, where f is the instructor's first initial. See the " Instructor Space" entry on the list of available West file shares for server address information.

The space allocation for instructor file directories is 250MB. Instructors can read and write in their own directory. All others can read only.

Files are deleted when the instructor requests or 8 months after you leave campus.

Course File Directories

Course file directories provide a convenient space that students can use to exchange and transfer files.

IT automatically creates a course directory (folder) for every instructor at the time of ASURITE UserID activation and associated selection of ASUWEST services. The directory name is the instructor's last name, or, if necessary to avoid duplication, lastname_f, where "f" is the initial letter of first name. See the "Course Space" entry on the list of available West campus file shares for server address information.

Instructors determine the structure and names of any subfolders they want to use within their directories. There is no disk space limit for the course directories, however each student has a 1GB limit to the amount of files they can place across all of the course directories (i.e., all Class and Classweb directories).

Everyone with ASUWEST or ASURITE (Kerberos) log on privileges has read-write access to every course directory. Instructors should consider requesting course space in myASU if they need a secure space for students to turn in homework and store materials. The Blackboard Digital Drop Box is very secure and convenient.

The contents of course file directories are deleted after the end of each semester.
