VideoconferencingFaculty and staff at ASU's West campus can conduct live meetings with distant colleagues by using video over IP equipment available in the Videoconference Room, FAB N301G. This equipment allows video transmission of the participants, as well as live transmission of your computer work, a VCR or DVD file, or the document on an overhead. Similar equipment supporting video over IP (H.323 standard) is installed on the other ASU campuses as well, allowing convenient meeting possibilities with colleagues at ASU. From the N301G Videoconference Room, you'll be able to meet with colleagues in the Tempe campus Computing Commons and the Polytechnic campus Videoconference Room. There is also a unit in the President's Board Room. Meetings involving locations around the world are also possible, at no
cost to participants, as long as you have the IP address for the unit
being called. If the remote end is using an ISDN connection, our equipment cannot connect directly. ISDN connections must be routed through the bridge in Tempe, which requires prior scheduling of the bridge equipment and staff.
To schedule a videoconference, use Outlook (from your Calendar, choose Actions/Plan a Meeting) to check availability and schedule room resource W.Room.Fab.N301G. Pick up a key to the room 10 minutes before your meeting from the front reception desk of the Office of the Vice President, at the West campus (FAB N300). If the distant site is initiating the conference, remember to let that site know that 149.169.184.41 is the N301G IP address. You'll find instructions in the room, and downloadable from this site. If you've never done videoconferencing before, have questions, or wish to receive training on the use of the videoconferencing equipment, call the IT Help Desk or submit a request online for a meeting with an IT staff member. Please schedule your request for training at least one week prior to your event to ensure availability of resources. Support during a videoconference meeting is provided by your college or unit technology support staff. You will want to give them advanced notice if you will be needing their services for your videoconference session. The conference room door locks automatically. At the end of your session, please turn off plasma screens, place controller in recharge dock and return the key. |
