Overview of the Encyclopedia

For those who wish to quantify it, the three-volume Encyclopedia of the Gilded Age and Progressive Era is the result of the efforts of more than 200 contributors and is comprised of: an introductory chapter, 17 thematic essays, 897 shorter entries, 100 documents, 48 sidebars, and 239 photographs.

The single Library of Congress subject heading assigned to indicate the title's intellectual focus is:
"United States -- History -- 1865-1921 -- Encyclopedias."
EGAPE is the first and only publication with this subject heading.

The encyclopedia was published by M.E. Sharpe, Inc. in July 2005.
