Scholarly Publishing on the Web

Scholarly Publishing, Peer Review and the Internet by Peter Roberts, in First Monday, Issue 4, 1998.

A number of different forms of writing in cyberspace are identified, and some of the arguments in favor of
moving from print-based publishing to electronic environments are assessed. The paper reinforces the need for rigorous
systems of peer review in scholarly work, and considers possible futures for serials in cyberspace.

Tenure

"With Web Skills--and Now Tenure--a Professor Promotes Improved Teaching," by Lisa Guernsey, The Chronicle of Higher Education, February 26, 1999, p.A24.

Randy Bass, professor of English at Georgetown University, received tenure in Spring 1998 based on his work in teaching and technology projects, including the Web, rather than a path of traditional research or writing.  This article outlines his story, his advocacy for the scholarship of teaching, and links to his portfolio of web-based projects he created for his American Literature students (http://www.georgetown.edu/bassr/portfolio/amlit/).
