Inside Metro Phoenix

By Katrina

While I was on my journey into the metro Phoenix area in search of migrants in the city, I came across the Arizona Center located between Jefferson and Third Street. I was surrounded by a different kind of shopping center.  The shopping centers where I live nearby consist of your Petsmart, Michael’s, a bunch of clothing stores, typically Wal-Mart and Target.  However, this shopping center had foods of many different nationalities, many stores that held many different countries’ flags, mugs, banners, sayings, etc.  On the other hand, I was astonished not to find a mug, flag or any time of article of my own homeland, Trinidad and Tobago. Nonetheless, to me, this felt like the melting pot of the United States because this little shopping center had a variety of different foods and shops.  When I was leaving the Arizona Center, I also noticed that there were many Mexican and Asian restaurants surrounding the outskirts of the Arizona Center.  As I drove by, I could not help but feel how lucky I was to be surrounded by so many different cultures, nationalities, foods, and languages.  This journey made me realize that there are many different people out there to learn about and so much more to explore in just the metro Phoenix area.
