Migrants in
the City- Plaza Mexicana

For this assignment, we were
asked to find a place in the beautiful city of Phoenix that
represented a cultural border of the US and another country.
We were asked to immerse ourselves in this border zone; taking
notes, interacting with people there, taking pictures, etc. I
immediately thought of a Mexican strip mall on Greenway Parkway,
just West of SR 51. This strip mall was built on a dirt lot,
and became a Mexican oasis completely different than anything else
around it.
This strip mall is called
Plaza Mexicana. Here, the people all speak Spanish, and look
Latino. Not a gringa/o in sight!
