Assignment to complete in today’s workshop (√ when done)

_____  A.         ALWAYS STEP ONE! Map your drive on our course web server site: Right click on MyComputer; select Map Network Drive \\westinfo.west.ad.asu.edu\classweb\koptiuch\Mig2005

_____  B.         Create your personal folder. Make new folder on desktop and label with your last name. Move to course Mig2005 folder. Save your web pages here.  [File > open site > yourfolder.]

_____  C.         Create your image folder. Make another folder inside your personal folder and label it “images.” Save all your image files to this folder.

_____  D.         Create your home page (index.htm). Open the program FrontPage, create a new page, and ‘save as’ index.htm in your personal folder: classweb/koptiuch/Mig2005/yourname. Your personal home page will link to all pages of your web portfolio.

·         Change internal title of each page [File > page properties > title box > rename it].

_____  E.          Create a table to design your home page. [3 rows, 2 columns, centered, 95% width] IT staff will give complete instructions for creating a table—take notes!

·         Insert the banner for our course in top row (insert migbanner.gif from the Mig2005 folder)

·         Create a ‘return’ link in bottom row: Return to Migration & Culture home page. Link it to the main index.html file in our course Mig2005 folder.

·         Add a link to your email address (mailto:): [Tap globe icon>envelope icon, enter email addr]

·         List the required project titles in left column, center row (see G). These will be linked to your web pages for the projects. Change the titles later to reflect your actual project titles.

·         Put your home page title in right column, center row (e.g. Yourname’s Home Page).

_____  F.          Create a template page.  Open your index.htm file, “save as” template.htm to your folder.

·         Open your index.htm and ‘save as’ template.htm.

·         Create a ‘return’ link: Return to my homepage (link to your index.htm file).

·         Again insert course banner at top of page; put your name on the page somewhere too.

·         Change internal title of each page [File > page properties > title box > rename it].

_____  G.         Create eight web pages from template for your web portfolio materials. Open your template page (F), ‘save as’ each of the pages below.

·         Do all if time, do at least three or four if no time, so that you’ll have a model for later

·         Title each project on the page as a reminder (you can change it to actual title later).

1.       bio.htm—for your own brief personal biographical information (include your photo)

2.       familyobject.htmIF TIME—put your scan/photo of your object and explanation here too.

3.       agency.htm—your immigrant agency ‘brief’

4.       borderlinks.htm—report on Nogales fieldtrip (or alternative ‘border’ report for absent students)

5.       countryposter.htm—for your “Why Migration” Country Team Poster and explanation

6.       citymigrants.htm—for your brief and image(s) from Migrants in the City project

7.       crossingthevalley.htm—your multimedia contribution to our migrant interview class project

8.       openletter.htm— Open Letter wrap-up comment reflecting on what you learned this semester.

·         Change internal title of each page [File > page properties > title box > rename it].

_____  H.         Edit your index.htm page and make links to your eight web pages.  Don’t get fancy for now, just do it. Save the changes and test your links.

_____  I.           IF Time: Copy an image from the Test Images page to your folder.  Resize it using Photoshop Elements.  Insert the image on your index page.

_____  J.           Test your links!!  IF TIME: Make your FAMILY MIGRATION OBJECT PAGE!
