Paloverde is a production of the Department of American Studies, which invites everyone in the university community—students, faculty, and staff—to contribute creative work. The magazine publishes poetry, fiction, nonfiction, scripts, and even the occasional research paper. It also seeks contributions of visual art, music, and computer-aided graphics. Two selection boards, one of student editors and one of faculty and staff, decide which among the many submissions will go into each annual issue of PaloVerde. The student editors in AMS 346/Eng. 394 assist in the magazine’s production. We wish to thank all who are listed here for their combined efforts in bringing this publication to life. The Department of American Studies encourages writing across the campus through its numerous upper- and lower-division courses in writing and through its Writing Certificate Program, which offers a certification in professional writing. PaloVerde and the campus newspaper, ASU West Express, exist to provide a practicum and showcase for students who enroll in these courses and who contribute to our campus’s intellectual life. With this issue, we express our appreciation for and joy in the students who make our programs and our university possible. —Victoria Hay
