Submissions

PaloVerde invites submissions from members of the Arizona State University West community, including students, faculty, and staff. At this time, we are not accepting contributions from writers and artists who do not attend or work for ASU West.

We publish poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, short plays, computer-aided art, and scannable artwork of all kinds. Starting with the May 2000 issue, the magazine will no longer appear in print format; instead, it will be published on-line once a year. A faculty board and the editorial staff review submissions and decides which will be accepted.

Deadline is always the last class day of fall semester.

Manuscripts

Copy should be prepared in format readable by Word for Windows. Save your document as an .rtf (rich text format) or .doc (Word document) file. Each file should contain a cover page with your name, address, telephone number, and a short bio. Number subsequent pages but do not put your name in the running header.

Double-space prose manuscripts and poems that require no special formatting. Poems with special formatting should be arranged as desired on the page.

Maximum word length for prose is 15,000 words (about 50 double-spaced pages), although we prefer shorter pieces. Please send no more than six poems in a submission for a given issue.

Scripts should be submitted in standard stage or movie script format.

E-mail manuscripts as attachments to:

 victoria.hay@asu.edu

You may also send a disk in IBM format to:

Art

PaloVerde invites art of all varieties that can successfully be published on-line. At present, the magazine is produced in Microsoft FrontPage; artwork created through computer programs should be compatible, or already mounted in a form that can be published on-line.

Other kinds of visual art must be scannable. If possible, scan your creation to a floppy, a Zip disk, or a CD and submit the disk to the address above.  Please e-mail Victoria Hay before sending large graphics files as attachments! Arrangements must be made to receive these files on cable-connected computers, not over the telephone lines.

Rights

PaloVerde uses one-time publication rights. Each creative work is posted on the Web with a copyright notice in the author's or artist's name and in ASU's name. All subsequent rights revert to the creator.

Notification

Decisions on acceptance are usually made in February; we try to notify contributors of the disposition of their submissions by the end that month.
