Kristen Farkas is a  junior at ASU West, working toward a degree in English.

A beautiful young face stares at me
From the hallway wall
Behind the gilded picture frame.

The smile still lingers in my mind,
The hands that would braid my hair,
And the eyes that saw so much before they closed.

What was she like then?
Did she smile during war?
Can she smell the flowers on her grave?

She left her homeland to unite her family.
She made goulash without a recipe.
I haven’t even begun to live.

Keep watch from your golden frame.
Your love fills the hallway,
Your strength fills my heart.
