Scenario
1. Age: 10 years. Grade: Fourth
2. Placement particulars:
In the general education classroom “Fred” receives content instruction in mathematics, spelling, journal writing and handwriting, reading, science and social studies.
He goes to lunch and recess with his general education class and participates in school wide activities.
He also participates in library once a week, and physical education three times a week with the general education class.
He does not participate in silent reading, writer’s workshops and read-alouds given by the teacher, or art activities, in the general education classroom.
After lunch he goes to the resource room and receives instruction in language arts and mathematics from the special educator.
3. My perspective of the role I have in my placement is to “drift,” assisting students as needed or instructed by the teacher. I have taught full class lessons from my social studies “unit” and small groups for mathematics.
4. The perspective of the general educator is to teach the content lessons help me to refine my lesson plans, and to critique the lessons that I teach. During lessons he assists by enforcing discipline and expanding on my instruction, if necessary.
