Philosophy of Education

In teaching, the classroom should not only be a place where a child learns their ABC’s or how to put together a sentence, but should be a place where a child can grow as a person.  I feel that every student deserves to be treated with dignity and respect.  Each student is unique and has value.  They all can learn and experience success as long as the teacher has positive expectations for everyone.  Students deserve a safe environment.  If the students receive the above items the classroom then will be able to create a community of learners.

In order for the day to flow smoothly and the students to learn, I feel classroom management is a necessity.  Being organized and on time is a must.

As a teacher, it is very important to provide a literature rich environment in the classroom. I enjoy using morning message, word wall, big books, environmental print, mini lessons and utilizing the KWL process. A child’s learning should always incorporate a hands-on experience.  Centers will set the stage for the hands-on experience along with math and language manipulatives.

It is important to incorporate science and social studies activities.  Students need to be able to create and view their own experiments.  I also feel that technology is a developing field that students must learn about.

In order for me to be a life long learner I will look to other teachers for guidance and will equally share knowledge with them.  Not only should I be a life long learner and bring new ideas into the classroom but my students should also make learning a lifetime, self-motivating achievement.

With my philosophy I will work to help my students uncover and demonstrate knowledge in an environment of positive expectations and mutual respect between students and teachers.
