Students at convocation

Graduates who are interested in becoming a student speaker for their college must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Student Speakers must be West campus graduates.
  • To participate in the fall convocation, students must be summer or fall graduates.
  • To participate in the spring convocation, students must be spring or summer graduates.

Application Guidelines

If you would like to apply to be a Student Speaker for your college convocation, you need to submit a 3-minute speech (approximately 500 – 600 words) by the Graduation Filing Deadline to WestConvocation@asu.edu.

Graduates will receive a reply via e-mail that their speech has been received. If you do not receive a reply by the Graduation Filing Deadline, contact the Public Affairs office at 602-543-5311.

Your application will be judged on the following criteria:

  • Content of speech
  • Organization of speech
  • Appropriateness for graduation
  • Time limit (can be done in 3 minutes)

Applicants are notified whether or not they were chosen 2 weeks prior to the ceremony. The students selected to speak at their college ceremony may be asked to rehearse the speech with a faculty mentor.
