ASU alumni sponsor career and networking event

Alumni from the Criminal Justice and Criminology Department in Arizona State University’s College of Human Services are sponsoring a career fair from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, May 3, at ASU’s West campus for anyone interested in a career in law enforcement, probation and parole, or the municipal and state court system.

Agencies participating include:

·         Arizona Department of Corrections

·         ASU Department of Public Safety

·         Federal Bureau of Investigation

·         City of Phoenix Police Department

·         City of Prescott Police Department

·         City of Scottsdale Police Department

·         City of Surprise Police Department

·         City of Tolleson Police Department

·         Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office

·         Town of Cottonwood Police Department

“With this field being one of the fastest growing areas of employment, the criminal justice and criminology alumni organization wanted to create a venue where we could bring together fellow alumni and community members to meet with the very agencies that need qualified applicants in the public and private sector,” said Julie House, alumni organizer for the event. “We’ve got a great turnout from agencies who are interested in recruiting for jobs. We’re inviting all members of the community to network with working professionals, connect with faculty and build career opportunities.”

The career fair is open to the public. The event is being held at ASU’s West campus, 4701 W. Thunderbird Rd., Phoenix, in the University Center Building, La Sala.

Representatives from ASU’s Criminal Justice and Criminology Department will be on hand to discuss educational opportunities in the field. “This is a great opportunity for anyone in the community who is interested in law enforcement, violence prevention, adult and juvenile probation issues, or corrections to learn more about the variety of undergraduate and graduate programs we offer at ASU,” said Chester Britt, chair of the department.

The criminal justice and criminology alumni group is one of seven new alumni chapters now being organized by the four colleges at ASU’s West campus.

“Our colleges and many of their departments are realigning alumni to be more college-centered. Using this university-wide model, alumni will be reconnected to where their experiences, relationships and loyalties were formed,” said Bobbi Magdaleno, director of alumni and constituent relations at ASU’s West campus. “The Criminal Justice and Criminology Department is in the forefront of this movement and looks forward to increasing the participation of current and future alumni.”
