Opens Aug. 30 at ASU's West campus
Nelson Garcia-Miranda’s “Tropical Carnival” exhibit, which showcases the internationally recognized Cuban artist’s painting and drawings, opens Aug. 30 as part of the 2005-2006 arts and performance season at
Garcia-Miranda, who also is an art educator, has earned international recognition for his work as a painter and printmaker. He is known for integrating folkloric countryside narratives and popular themes of Cuban dance, theater, mythology and celebrations into his art.
This event kicks off the new arts and performance season at ASU’s West campus produced by the department of Interdisciplinary Arts and Performance. The season includes visual art exhibits and installations, theatrical performances and musical performances highlighting the work of faculty and students in ASU’s New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences.
“Tropical Carnival” will open with a reception at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 30, and feature a performance by Cantamus Poetique, a group that provides a blend of cultural sounds and spoken words. The exhibit and performance are part of the observance of Hispanic Heritage Month.
