ASU lifelong learning expands program offerings in Sun City communities
Aug. 12, 2005
The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Arizona State University is increasing the selection of classes offered this fall to residents in the Sun City communities. For the first time since the ASU lifelong learning program began in 2001, residents will have the opportunity to choose from more than 80 classes and lectures that begin in October. Older adults will enjoy learning in a no-test, no-grades, no-homework environment.
The program of short courses and free lectures will include: Abstract Expressionism Painting, Around the World in Cinema, Introduction to American Sign Language, Overview of Alternative Health Care, Short Stories, The Art of Advocacy and Turning Points in History.
“Classes are designed to be intellectually stimulating and interactive without the pressures of grades or tests. If they are successful, we plan to offer more next spring,” said Vince Waldron, faculty director of ASU’s lifelong learning programs and a professor in the College of Human Services at ASU’s West campus.
The Osher Lifelong Institute at Arizona State University serves residents in Sun City, Sun City Grand and Sun City West. A grant from the Bernard Osher Foundation allows ASU to expand and enhance its lifelong learning programs to serve residents across the Valley. The Osher Foundation collaborates with universities nationwide to offer intellectually stimulating learning opportunities for older adults.
For registration and class information, call the local ASU lifelong learning office — Sun City (623) 974-6985, Sun City Grand (623) 546-7429 and Sun City West (623) 584-4288 — or visit online at: www.west.asu.edu/lifelong.
