ASU offers public lectures in Sun City communities this fall
Sep. 12, 2005
The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Arizona State University is offering public lectures this fall through its programs in Sun City, Sun City West and Sun City Grand. Registration continues this month. Each community will host a series of lectures and educational events that are free of charge and open to the public.
ASU professors and community experts will lead discussions on such topics as Arizona’s Native People, Public Art in the Phoenix-metro Area, Why Anthropologists Study Nonhuman Primate Behavior and The Questions Science Can’t Ask.
These are among the 17 free lectures and lifelong learning events offered this fall in the Sun City communities and at ASU’s West campus, 4701 W. Thunderbird Road, Phoenix. These courses supplement existing membership-based programs.
“Gerontological research suggests that healthy aging requires us to stay intellectually engaged, to keep learning during our retirement years. Residents of the Sun Cities seem to understand this, because they keep asking ASU to offer more classes at more locations,” said Vince Waldron, faculty director of ASU’s lifelong learning programs and a professor in the College of Human Services at ASU’s West campus.
Registration for any of the lectures continues through Oct. 17. Seating is limited. For registration and information, call the local ASU lifelong learning office — Sun City (623) 974-6985, Sun City Grand (623) 546-7429 and Sun City West (623) 584-4288 — or visit online at: www.west.asu.edu/lifelong.
