Oct. 3, 2005
The internationally award winning play “Death and the Maiden” will be performed at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 5 to 8, at Arizona State University’s West campus. The provocative drama is directed by ASU faculty member Charles St. Clair and coproduced with iTheatre Collaborative. Ticket prices are $15 general, $10 for seniors and $6 for students.
The play is set in an unnamed country in Africa that is struggling to form a democratic government after overthrowing a brutal dictatorship. The story revolves around a woman who has a chance meeting with the man she believes is responsible for her brutal rape and torture 20 years earlier. The drama was written by Chilean writer Ariel Dorfman, who is an exile of the former regime of military dictator General Augusto Pinochet. It stars Lillie Richardson, Steven J. Scally and Mike Traylor.
This production is part of the 2005-2006 arts and performance season, produced by the department of Interdisciplinary Arts and Performance (IAP). The season includes visual art exhibits and installations, theatrical productions and musical performances highlighting the work of faculty and students in ASU’s New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences.
