ASU student writes, directs provocative theatrical work

Oct. 18, 2005

An original theater work entitled “Sex of the Mind,” written by David Roberts, an ASU student, will be performed at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 19 to 22, at Arizona State University’s West campus. Ticket prices are $15 general, $10 for seniors and $6 for students.

Roberts, who also directs the production, described his work as an attempt to mentally lead his audience through differing stimuli.

“The consumption of thought is the first parallel between sex and art, but only the first,” said Roberts. He added that in both sex and art, it is the goal itself that lures us. It is different from other goals in life in that we usually take purposeful steps we are fully aware of in order to achieve specific goals, he explained.

This production is part of the 2005-2006 arts and performances season, produced by the department of Interdisciplinary Arts and Performance. The season includes musical performances, theatrical productions and visual arts exhibits and installations highlighting the work of faculty and students in ASU’s New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences. “Sex of the Mind” will be performed at Second Stage West, located in the lower level of the University Center Building at ASU’s West campus, 4701 W. Thunderbird Road, Phoenix. Tickets are available for purchase via credit card by calling (602) 543-ARTS (2787). Visitor parking is $1 per hour for Wednesday and Thursday performances. Parking is free Friday and Saturday.
