Nov. 30, 2004

Unique one-man performance of Dickens classic runs Dec. 10-12

Arizona State University's West campus ushers in the holiday season with an exciting show that uses a distinctive approach to tell a beloved tale. “One Christmas Carol,” running Dec. 10-12 at Second Stage West, presents actor Douglas H. Baker in a tour de force one-man performance of Dickens' famous holiday work. Baker weaves the story of Scrooge's transformation with the skill of a master storyteller and tells it in its bare essence, playing all the characters and highlighting the human spirit that resides in each of us. Accompanied by live sound effects, this unique performance, co-produced with Valley company Theatrescape, promises to be an unforgettable holiday experience.

Baker is an actor extraordinaire, working professionally for more than 25 years. He has performed and directed for the Utah Shakespeare Festival, written four production shows and performed for more than 13 years as Merlin the Master at the Excalibur hotel in Las Vegas. He also is a director and a professor, having taught at South Utah University and currently at Community College of Southern Nevada.

“One Christmas Carol” will be performed Friday, Dec. 10 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 11 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 12 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $15 general, $10 seniors and $6 students and are available during regular business hours from ASU's West campus cashier office or via credit card by calling the Arts Information Line at 602-543-ARTS (602-543-2787).
