Catherine Anaya, a news anchor at CBS 5, will be one of the guest speakers during this year's Women's History Month events at Arizona State University's West campus. Others on the roster include Mildred Garcia, president of New York's Berkeley College and former vice provost at ASU's West campus; and Dianne Schwartz, author and former Mrs. Arizona.
The month-long celebration is sponsored by the Women's Studies Department and the Women's Studies Resource Center. Both are part of ASU's New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences.
The planned activities focus on past and modern-day issues that affect women in this country and around the world. An International Women's Day fair also is planned. Events are free and open to the public. The schedule is:
Tuesday, March 8: International Women's Day Fair, a global event featuring an open mic, women's arts and crafts, international organizations, food and entertainment. (10 a.m.-2 p.m., Delph Courtyard. Light refreshments will be served.)
Wednesday, March 9: Anna Ferguson--"The World War II Housewife," portrayed by Gayle Martin of the Arizona Living History Program.(Noon-1 p.m., Second Stage West. Brown bag lunch and light refreshments.)
Wednesday, March 9: Elizabeth St. Clair--"The Old West Storyteller," portrayed by Gayle Martin of the Arizona Living History Program.(6:30-8 p.m., Second Stage West. Light refreshments will be served.)
Tuesday, March 29: Mildred Garcia, president of New York's Berkeley College and former vice provost at ASU's West campus, will speak on issues of importance to women. (6:30-8 p.m., Kiva Lecture Hall. Light refreshments will be served.)
Wednesday, March 30: Catherine Anaya, a news anchor at CBS 5, will speak on a woman's struggles working in a male-dominated industry. (Noon-1:30 p.m., Kiva Lecture Hall. Light refreshments will be served.)
Wednesday, March 30: Jen Young, a pianist, will play a selection of jazz and pop songs. (6:30 p.m., University Center Building, La Sala. Light refreshments will be served.)
Thursday, March 31: Dianne Schwartz, an author and former Mrs. Arizona, will speak on domestic violence and her new book "Whose Face in the Mirror?" (Noon-1 p.m., University Center Building, La Sala. Light refreshments will be served.
