Phoenix Symphony returns to ASU's West campus March 10

Mar. 4, 2005

The Phoenix Symphony returns to its West Valley home at ASU's West campus on Thursday, March 10 at 7:30 p.m. when it presents "A Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra." Conductor Robert Moody will lead the 75 members of the orchestra in a concert that explores the many instruments and colors of sound that can be performed.

Presented in a style similar to the popular "Classic Connections" concerts, Moody will narrate this musical journey featuring not only Benjamin Britten's famous piece, from which the concert derives its title, but selections of works by Prokofiev, Gershwin, Beethoven, Rachmaninov, Ravel and Tchaikovsky as well. In addition, the Symphony will perform music made popular from the films "Fantasia," "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" and the "Harry Potter" films.

"This concert is perfect for all members of the family, young and old," said Jeffrey Kennedy, associate artistic director for the Department of Interdisciplinary Arts and Performance in ASU's New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences.

The concert will be held in La Sala, located in the University Center Building. Tickets are $15 general, $10 for seniors and $6 for students, and are available for purchase via credit card by calling 602-543-ARTS (602-543-2787) or from ASU's West campus cashier office during regular business hours. Event parking is $2. ASU's West campus is located at 4701 W. Thunderbird Rd., Phoenix.
