“Caregiving for elders is one of the biggest issues facing families today. The value of care provided by family members for older adults is estimated at more than $200 billion a year. About two-thirds of adults older than age 65, who are not living in a care facility, rely on family, friends and neighbors for at least some care,” said Kathleen Waldron, lecturer in ASU’s College of Human Services that houses the gerontology program.

“Caregiving encompasses many things, from hands-on physical assistance such as helping someone to dress, to financial assistance, emotional support, transportation, and house- or yard-work,” Waldron added.

According to Waldron, the forum is geared toward the general public. Anyone who is involved in caregiving or needs to explore caregiving facilities is encouraged to attend this workshop.

The workshop costs $5, covering both presentations. To register, call (602) 543-6642.

Payment may be made at the door or mailed in advance to: Gerontology Program, Arizona State University, PO Box 37100, Phoenix, AZ 85069.

The workshop will be conducted at ASU’s West campus, 4701 W. Thunderbird Rd., Phoenix, in the Classroom Lab/Computer Classroom building (CLCC) on the east side of the campus. For parking convenience, enter the campus at 47th Ave. and follow the orange signs.
