Awards and Distinctions• ASU West Elementary Education Department was awarded the Distinguished Achievement Award by the International Society for Technology in Education. This award recognizes institutions that have exhibited exemplary models of integration of the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers into their teacher education programs. • Project Explorer Web Site (coe.west.asu.edu/explorer) selected as a Super Science Site by the American Association for the Advancement of Science, July 2001. • Project Explorer Web Site (coe.west.asu.edu/explorer) selected as a Featured Resource in the Eisenhower National Clearinghouse’s Focus: A Magazine for Classroom Innovators, 7(3), 2000. • Selected as ASU West Technology Fellow, Summer 2000 program. • Received the "My ParenTime´s Informed Parents Award" in February 1999 for the Student-Parent Laboratories Achieving Science at Home WWW Site (www.west.asu.edu/coe/splash/). • Fulbright Lecturing Award for January through June 1999 at the University of Akureyri, Iceland. • Received the Arizona State University West 1997-1998 Faculty Award of Achievement in Service (plaque and $500), April 21, 1998. • Appointed by President Coor to Arizona State University Honorary Degrees Committee, May 1997, re-appointed May 1998. • Apple PIE (Parent Involvement in Education) Award from Working Mother magazine; the Family Involvement Partnership for Learning; and Teachers College, Columbia University for work developing SPLASH program, April, 1997. • Elected to the Faculty Senate of Arizona State University West by the College of Education, May 1995 and April 1997. • Two Year Service Award from Big Brother/Big Sister Association of Franklin County, OH, August 1994. • Inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, The Ohio State University Chapter, May 1992. • One-Year University Fellowship at The Ohio State University based on previous academic and professional achievement, September 1991. • Second place finish in The Science Teacher magazine’s photograph competition entitled “Science in Focus” February 1991. • Inducted as an Honorary Member into the Arista Honor Society at Lehman High School, May 1990. • Received the “1987 Beyond War Award” by the Foundation for Global Community, Palo Alto, CA, December 1987. • Inducted into Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor Society in Education, Columbia University, Teachers College, New York, 1987. • Science Teacher of the Year, Lehman High School, Bronx, New York, 1987. • Elected student government Chairman of the Math and Science Education Department, 1987-1988, Columbia University, Teachers College. • Peace Corps Fellowship, Columbia University, Teachers College, 1986-1988. • Coached Cardinal Otunga High School Basketball Team to second place finish in the Kenyan National High School Tournament, 1985. • Inducted into Alpha Lambda Delta, Freshman Honor Society, University at Buffalo, 1979. • New York State Regents Scholarship based on academic achievement in high school, 1978. |
