Founder, President, and Coach of the Gavilian Peak Elementary School Chess Club, Anthem, AZ (Spring 2003 to Present).

Member of the Board of Directors of the 2005 International Science and Engineering Fair—Arizona (July, 2001 to present).

Community Support for School Science Fairs: Advisor, Judge, and Judge Recruiter (1996 to present)

Advanced Chess Coach, Orangewood Elementary School, Phoenix, AZ (Spring 2003).

Orangewood Elementary School Staff Development, helped obtain 4 external grants to develop the science, technology, and math teaching abilities of teachers (1994 to 2000)

Volunteer at Cradle Beach Camp for three weeks in summer in Angola, NY. Established Science Center, designed learning activities, trained counselors, and taught disadvantaged campers (1998)

Harold W. Smith Magnet School Science Education Development. Helped this school, comprised of low socioeconomic level students in a culturally diverse area, by obtaining two grants for teacher education and procurement of technology, teaching lessons to the class of Mrs. Thomas, and designing and implementing a SPLASH activity. Worked with Dr. González-Jensen to create a Family Astronomy Night, brought Thomas Bopp (co-discoverer of Hale-Bopp Comet) to speak to students, and sponsored and chaperoned student visit to the Arizona Science Center (1997 to 1998)

Volunteer for Heredia, Costa Rica Orphanage. Arranged for Thanksgiving meal. Bought and distributed presents on Christmas day, 1996.

Volunteer for the homeless through St. Vincent De Paul Society (1996 to 1998)

Fruit Gleaner for food kitchens and shelters (1994 to 1996)

Big Brother, Big Brother/Big Sister Program of Franklin County. Weekly visits, outings, and mentoring with a 14 year-old boy (1994)

Summer Volunteer Teacher, Head Start Program. Taught and supervised three- through five-year-old students in a full-year full-day Head Start Program (1994)

Consulting Editor and Book Reviewer, Science Activities journal, Heldref Publications, Washington DC (1994 to Present).

Member of the Board of Directors of the Arizona Alliance for Science, Mathematics, and Technology. Worked with the group to promote science, mathematics, and technology education through a variety of means, including sponsoring the Arizona Science Olympiad and supporting the International Science Fair and (1997 to present)
